 The best time to prepare for a wet weather event is before the dark clouds begin to gather. The Queensland government has suggested each household have an up-to-date disaster plan and emergency kit. Here is what's recommended to have on hand in the case of a flood emergency. Emergency kits should cover at least three days of basic supplies for each person in your household, as well as essentials in the case of power outages or evacuation, the Queensland government says. Brisbane community to have its say on future plans for flood-wrecked Toombul shopping centre

 Seven months after the floods that destroyed the Toombul shopping centre on Brisbane's northside, owner Mirvac says there is not yet a time frame for demolition.  The shopping centre was inundated by overland flow from neighbouring Kedron Brook in February this year, forcing Mirvac to terminate hundreds of leases and shut up the centre. Damage from the floodwaters and consequential black mould throughout spelled the end for the original building, with Mirvac starting work to strip it out weeks later. BOM's Queensland weekend weather forecast includes heavy rainfall, severe storms as warnings issued

 Heavy rain looks set to lash large parts of Queensland this weekend as the weather bureau issues several flash flooding and severe thunderstorm warnings for central and southern parts of the state. The Bureau of Meteorology (BOM) has placed most of central and southern Queensland on flood watch as residents in the Wide Bay, Burnett and the state's south-eastern forecast districts brace for potential flooding. While severe thunderstorm warnings have now been cancelled across south-east Queensland, warnings for heavy rainfall remain in place for the Darling Downs and Granite Belt, parts of Central Highlands and Coalfields, Capricornia, Wide Bay and Burnett and Maranoa and Warrego Forecast Districts.
