Brisbane community to have its say on future plans for flood-wrecked Toombul shopping centre

 Seven months after the floods that destroyed the Toombul shopping centre on Brisbane's northside, owner Mirvac says there is not yet a time frame for demolition. 

The shopping centre was inundated by overland flow from neighbouring Kedron Brook in February this year, forcing Mirvac to terminate hundreds of leases and shut up the centre.

Damage from the floodwaters and consequential black mould throughout spelled the end for the original building, with Mirvac starting work to strip it out weeks later.

Former Logan mayor Luke Smith gets suspended sentence after admitting to secret commissions and misconduct

 A former Logan mayor has avoided time in jail after being handed a suspended sentence for corruption and misconduct offences while he held public office. On Tuesday Timothy Luke Smith, 53, pleaded guilty to three offences, a day after he was due to face trial in the District Court in Brisbane. He admitted to receiving a secret commission by an agent, failing to update his register of interests, and misconduct in relation to public office. Smith was also facing one count of perjury, accused of knowingly giving false testimony at a public hearing, but this charge was discontinued.
